Veterans Day Parade

Each year, Thomas Hopkins Post 4 of The American Legion proudly leads the planning and coordination of the Veterans Day Parade in Wichita, Kansas—a beloved community tradition dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of U.S. military veterans from every branch. Months before parade day, Post 4 works closely with city officials, local schools, military units, veteran organizations, and participating groups to ensure the event reflects the dignity and gratitude our veterans deserve.

From traffic control and staging areas to safety, accessibility, and route logistics, Post 4 manages the details with care and precision so the community can focus on what matters most: recognition and remembrance. Parade day typically begins with an opening ceremony featuring a flag-raising, invocation, and remarks from local dignitaries and military leaders, setting a respectful tone for a meaningful and memorable tribute.

The parade itself showcases floats, military vehicles, veterans’ organizations, JROTC units, color guards, marching bands, and community groups—often including special recognition for Gold Star families, WWII and Vietnam veterans, and active-duty personnel. Beyond the procession, Post 4 strengthens community involvement through volunteer opportunities, school essay contests and art projects centered on patriotism and service, and family-friendly activities and informational displays at the end of the parade route—ensuring Veterans Day is not only observed but truly celebrated together.
